Whiplash
Bring something to sit on and whatever you need to stay warm and dry
“Whiplash will spit you out elated, exhausted and cheering for an encore.”
Come to Brockwell Lido and witness the multi-Oscar winner in all its glory!
Nominated for Best Picture at the 2015 Academy Awards, Whiplash is one of those rare films that will stay in your head days after the final credits have rolled.
Set at a prestigious New York music academy, the film tells the story of Andrew Neiman (Miles Teller) an ambitious young jazz drummer, striving for greatness. Terence Fletcher (magnificently portrayed by J.K. Simmons in a role that won him an Oscar), an instructor known for his terrifying and unconventional teaching methods, discovers Andrew and transfers the talented, but wet around the ears drummer into his top jazz ensemble, forever changing the young man’s life in the process. But Andrew’s passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his borderline psychotic teacher pushes him to the precipice of his sanity.
Bursting at the seams with electrifying music and sensational performances, Whiplash is guaranteed to leave you breathless and buzzing. But this is not your usual film about music or teaching, sharing more DNA with adrenaline inducing sporting movies such as Rocky than the likes of Mr Holland’s Opus. It’s basically an action movie about Jazz! Come and watch the film under the stars at the iconic Brockwell Lido in what is sure to be an unforgettable evening.
NO GLASS BOTTLES ALLOWED INTO THE LIDO. Bags are all searched on the door and if you bring glass, you will be asked to decant its contents into something plastic or leave it outside. You have been warned 🙂
