We Were Children
SOAS UN Society presents We Were Children, followed by a panel discussion.
Screening Wednesday 9 March, 7pm, in room FG01, Faber Building, SOAS University, Thornhaugh Street, London WC1H 0XG. The Faber Building is located right next door to the main building.
In the feature film We Were Children, the profound impact of the Canadian government’s residential school system is conveyed through the eyes of two children who were forced to face hardships beyond their years. As young children, Lyna and Glen were taken from their homes and placed in church-run boarding schools, where they suffered years of physical, sexual and emotional abuse, the effects of which persist in their adult lives. We Were Children gives voice to a national tragedy and demonstrates the incredible resilience of the human spirit.
SOAS UN Society aim is to get people to understand how the UN works by simulating it. We plan to hold weekly lively debates on matters of the utmost importance. We also plan to send members to MUN conferences around the country and hold our own.
Free event. Open to the public. No ticket required.
