The first of our pair of May Movies with Music in West Norwood is this classic tale of seduction and jealousy from 1967, plus a live set from Bennett Valuks
“Here’s to you, Mrs Robinson”… an affair that crosses generations and starts after a college homecoming gave Dustin Hoffman and Anne Bancroft memorable roles, while Simon & Garfunkel provided one of the most memorable film soundtracks of the 1960s.
Benjamin Braddock (Hoffman), fresh out of college, is a little worried about his future on his return home to California. But his aimless life is about to get properly complicated when he’s caught between an affair with Mrs Robinson (Bancroft) and his relationship with Elaine (Katharine Ross) – who just happens to be Mrs Robinson’s daughter.
Mike Nichols’ classic 1967 film won him an Academy Award as Best Director – his three lead actors were all nominated for Oscars too. Come and see what critic Roger Ebert declared was “the funniest American comedy of the year”.
Followed by a live set from south London’s own alt-folk driven band Bennett Valuks, fresh from their residency at West Norwood’s Book and Record Bar.
