Striking with Pride: United at the Coalface + Q&A

Free (No ticket required - First come first served)
7:30PM
INDOOR: The Ivy House

Uplifting documentary about an unlikely alliance that changed history.

Between London Pride 1984 and 1985 an unlikely alliance was forged between the gay men and lesbians of London and the striking miners of South Wales.

Striking with Pride: United at the Coalface at The Ivy House on Thursday 5th September will captivate you with the unexpected and
uplifting love story at its heart. Not between two people, but between two communities who – seemingly worlds apart – found common cause and compassion for each other in the face of immense challenges. As they fought for each other’s rights, they changed the course of history for queer people in the UK.

This remarkable tale was made famous by the Bafta winning film Pride a decade ago, but the real story behind the script is even richer and more powerful. And the legacy of these events is still felt to this day, 40 years on from the miners’ strike. Narrated by Welsh drag icon Tayce
(RuPaul’s Drag Race UK) with exclusive access to key contributors.

Q&A with director Ashley Francis-Roy (Damilola: The Boy Next Door), producer Sasha Kosminsky (Untouchable: The Rise and Fall of Harvey Weinstein) and contributors.

The Ivy House was London’s first co-operative pub and community hub. Grade II listed and with original 1930s wood-panelled interiors, it offers a warm welcome, good food, a large selection of drinks and a variety of entertainment.
