Harder Than The Rock: The Cimarons Story + Q&A with The Cimarons
Reggae exploded in the 1970s, with British band Cimarons at its heart. Harder Than The Rock at The Ivy House on Sunday 31st August tells how Cimarons brought excitement, experimentation and sheer anticipation booming from speaker boxes, putting the new generation of Black British youth in touch with their roots. Industry legends, they worked with reggae-royalty Bob Marley, Toots & the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and even Paul McCartney. But they have been hugely under-recognised when it comes to their own music, impact and legacy. This beautifully shot documentary poignantly captures the band’s sound and history, following their final chapter as they dream of playing live once more.
In addition, we are thrilled to announce that The Cimarons will be joining us in-person for a Q&A with Jason Page (founder of the South East Salon) immediately after the film. Jason Page is founder of South East Salon, a platform for conversations about South East London. The Salon is a global access point for the best corner of the capital. Follow for more at @SELondonsalon on Instagram. Jason is also partnerships manager for SET space a charity that turns disused buildings into creative London-wide.
We cannot wait to welcome the band’s founding members Locksley Gichie, Franklyn Dunn, and current singer Michael Arkk to The Ivy House for what will be a very special event!
The Ivy House was London’s first co-operative pub and community hub. Grade II listed and with original 1930s wood-panelled interiors, it also has an impressive music history. It offers a warm welcome, good food, a large selection of drinks and a variety of entertainment.
