Grease sing a long
Bring something to sit on and whatever you need to stay warm and dry
Grease is a pleasing, energetic musical packed with infectiously catchy songs – come along to Brockwell Park, join the Grease loving crowds and sing along with them!
Come hungry to this screening – we have the best burgers in town from Original Fry Up Material and extraordinarily good Vietnamese street food from BMOH. And if you need warmth, there’s coffee and hot chocolate from the wonderful Wildebeest Coffee Van.
Grease is the word that has maintained its 50s presence in pop culture vocabulary since it first came out in the 70s; an ode to young love that never gets old.
After meeting and having a brief summer romance in the late 1950’s, Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John) say goodbye as they must return to their respective hometowns to finish high school. Back at Rydell High, Danny meets the rest of his leather-jacketed gang, the T-Birds, including Kenickie (Jeff Conway) and several other greasers.
Unbeknownst to Danny, Sandy has transferred to Rydell where she meets the Pink Ladies, the T-Birds’ female counterparts. When Danny and Sandy finally run into each other they’re excited, but Danny – knowing he has his cool image to maintain – suddenly acts like she’s no big thing. Crushed, Sandy rushes off, hangs out with the Pink Ladies, and finally starts seeing the school jock. Meanwhile Danny and his pals decide to refurbish a car, nicknamed Greased Lightnin’ and enter it in a competition against a rival gang, the Scorpions.
Still smitten with Sandy, however, Danny tries various ways to impress her. They eventually get back together and compete at a nationally televised dance-off, although later events separate them once more. As the school year draws to a close, they do what they can to get back together.
Thank you to Brockwell Park Community Partners for their generosity in allowing us to use the park and The Hireman for loaning us the technical equipment to allow this screening to happen.
