Fitzcarraldo

Screening of Werner Herzog’s award winning epic adventure, Fitzcarraldo, in Art Deco building Mundania Court, Forest Hill Road, London SE22 0NQ, 7.30pm for 8.00pm, Thursday 4 September.
The tale of Brian Fitzgerald, (Klaus Kinski), who dreams of building an opera house in the jungle. In order to fund his project, he buys a steamship to sail up the Amazon River to an inaccessible area of rubber trees that could be tapped and make his fortune. Capturing the curiosity of the locals he encounters, he enlists their labour in his plan to drag the steamship over a steep hill, from one river to another.
Mundania Court is a 1930s building, and the film will be shown amongst the palms of the leafy, tropical courtyard.
This is an outdoor event, so please come dressed appropriately. Places are limited, and on a first come first served basis. Closest toilets are across the road at Watson’s General Telegraph.

A boat-like building on the corner of Forest Hill Road and Mundania Road, Mundania Court is home to 50 flats that overlook a central court yard filled with banana and avocado trees, palms and geraniums.
