City of God (18)
We’re back at the Catford Constitutional Club for our Thursday evening screening, and looking forward to showing Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund’s City of God.
The 2002 Brazilian crime film depicts the growth of organised crime in Rio de Janeiro between the late 1960s and early 1980s.
A young man growing up on the streets of Rio de Janeiro’s notorious slum, has ambitions as a photographer, which may be his only way out.
This year, we’ll also be screening a short film before each of our screenings, hand selected by our team of volunteers. We’ve chosen an eclectic bunch, lots of which we came across when we asked for submissions to our shorts night at the Broadway Theatre, back in June.
Tonight, we’ll be showing you Solatium (10 minutes) by Ukranian director Christina Tynkevych. Anna, an ambulance doctor, stands in line for absolution in a church in Kiev. As her turn nears, she goes over the recent tragic events in her life in her mind.
