INDOOR: The Book & Record Bar
“How old are we, really?” Dive headlong into the American rock’n’roll scene of 1973, as a precocious young rock journalist goes on tour with rising stars Stillwater… and their supportive squad of “band-aids”, led by the mesmerising Penny Lane. Cameron Crowe’s affectionate, almost-biographical retelling of how he became the youngest ever contributor to Rolling Stone magazine stars Patrick Fugit as teenage rock scribe William Miller. There are standout performances from Kate Hudson as Penny and Frances McDormand as William’s fiercely protective mother – both gained deserved Oscar nominations while Crowe (the writer-director of JERRY MAGUIRE) won his Academy Award for best screenplay. A coming-of-age film that Roger Ebert said was “funny and touching in so many different ways”, ALMOST FAMOUS has a terrific soundtrack from the classic rock / singer-songwriter era. We’ll be playing some sounds of the 70s at the Book and Record Bar to accompany it.
