Aguirre, The Wrath of God + The Park
Come down to the Lido Cafe to see one of this visionary filmmaker’s greatest achievements!
Based loosely on the true story of 16th-century conquistador Lupe De Aguirre, Werner Herzog’s 1972 epic tells the story of the doomed expedition of the conquistador Gonzalo Pizarro, who in 1560 and 1561 led a body of men into the Peruvian rain forest, lured by stories of the lost city. One of the great folies de grandeur of 1970s cinema, the agonies of its production history have entered into legend, almost equivalent to the movie fiction itself.
To warm up the audience this screening will be preceded by The Park, a short documentary film shot in Brockwell Park with an introduction by the filmmaker.
Thanks to the Lido Cafe for hosting and sponsoring this screening.
